About Sailorgirl

About Catherine, aka Sailorgirl

My goal is to live an inspired, adventurous, creative life.

I love sailing. I spend a couple of months every year on my small white sailboat in warm blue waters.

I play with fire and make glass beads. I hammer sterling silver. I design and sell jewelry with my glass beads and silver. I ride my bike everywhere.

Once upon a time I rode my bike around Ireland. I’m learning Spanish (it’s taken 20 years so far). I love to cook.

I believe every meal should be garnished. I’m a cat girl. I like pretty coloured fish and birds. I love flowers. Hanging out in coffee shops watching the world go by is one of my favourite pastimes. Blue and green should always be seen. I can never have enough colour around me. I have a weak spot for bonnet dramas on the BBC. I love radio plays, audiobooks and podcasts. I’m a sun bunny. I was born in New Zealand, moved to Australia, and immigrated to Canada when I was 11. I love vegemite on toast.

If I had 2 heads, 4 hands and never slept I still wouldn’t get everything done on my list so I plan on living an active life until I am 100. I adore running my small business.

About Sailorgirl Jewelry

I go adventuring; a sailboat, sunshine, beaches, a bicycle, flowers, curiosity...

I make glass beads. Using the ancient technique known as lampworking, I use a torch to melt rods of glass and wind them around a thin steel rod. I build up multiple layers of glass, sometimes adding pure silver leaf, and decorate and shape each bead, one at a time, by hand. Once formed, all my beads are annealed in a kiln to ensure a lifetime of durability.

I cast treasures from the world around me in shimmering sterling silver, making happy moments, something that can be touched and shared.

I make jewelry. With my beads and sterling silver components, I design and construct all my jewelry in my Toronto, Canada studio.

All Sailorgirl Jewelry is 100% original and unique, from the adventures that inspire it to the people who wear it!
